Individual Membership

Individual membership is open to anyone working in the social housing sector, in either a paid or unpaid capacity, or with an interest in the social housing sector.

How to join

To apply for Professional Membership you may either:

  • complete the online application form and pay for membership via SecurePay, or
  • download a members info and application form here (pdf), and return it to our office by fax (02) 6494 7588 or post it to PO Box 6100, Mawson, ACT 2607 AUSTRALIA.

Membership types

There are three types of membership:

  • Member - at least five years involvement; or a housing qualification and at least one year's involvement *
  • Associate - at least 12 months involvement *
  • Affiliate - less than 12 months involvement *; or no current formal involvement but a genuine ongoing interest as an academic, student, person on extended leave or a retired person

* involvement refers to a paid or unpaid role with a social housing organisation that is formal and continuing

Membership fees

Less than $20,000 $20/year
Between $20,000 and $50,000 $75/year
Between $50,000 and $100,000 $150/year
Greater than $100,000 $300/year
Overseas(resident outside of Australia and New Zealand) $75/year

The AHI's membership year runs from 1 April to 31 March. When you join the AHI we pro-rata the amount of the relevant subscription rate (from above), from the date you join until the end of that membership year.

In Australia your membership fee is tax deductible.

  • You will receive a 20% discount if you pay two years in advance

Direct Debit Scheme

To assist members with the payment of their membership subscriptions, the AHI has established a direct debit scheme, where members can make monthly payments, from as little as $1.67 per month, depending upon their Annual Salary Band (see above).

Monthly instalments can be deducted from your bank account (in Australia only), or from your credit card (available everywhere).
