Sydney’s inner city ‘urban warriors’ honoured

Two of Sydney’s most prominent Aboriginal rights activists and social housing advocates were today honoured with lifetime achievement awards.

Michael Mundine, CEO of the Aboriginal Housing Company (AHC), and Colin James AM, Director of the IB Fell Housing Research Centre at the University of Sydney, were presented the awards at a special ceremony by Her Excellency, Governor Marie Bashir

AHI Photo Exhibition arrives in Brisbane

The Institute’s travelling photographic road show has arrived in Queensland’s Parliament House. Kindly launched by the Minister for Housing, the Hon Karen Struthers MP, fifty portraits of the AHI’s members are on show in the Annex Foyer as part of Facing up to the challenge: Images of social housing people.

On 8 September the Australasian Housing Institute launched its first major member recruitment campaign. As the name suggests, we want every AHI member to reach out and recruit at least one other housing professional to join our ranks. Rhonda draws on International and Australian research, including a recent AHURI study, to uncover the myths and realities of attempting policy and service integration. This will be an informative and provocative discussion that challenges assumptions and informs practice. It will be of interest to housing and human services practitioners involved in policy, management or frontline work.

Rhonda Phillips is a housing researcher with the Queensland AHURI Research Centre and social policy consultant. She has extensive experience in social policy, program management and human services delivery. Her research interests include new approaches to affordable housing, governance and policy implementation.
