The Australasian Housing Institute

Presenting... our new staff

The capacity of the Institute to deliver an expanded professional development program in 2010 has been made possible by a significant boost to our staff resources.

Taking over the strategic management of the Institute’s professional development program is Donella Roberts, an expert consultant on learning and development matters. Donella has enjoyed career success in frontline management through to executive level roles within industry-leading organisations.

Advising the Institute for one day per week, her focus in 2010 will be the introduction of the AHI's new eLearning system, the coordination of the inaugural AHI Emerging Leaders Management Retreat and the development of a members’ mentoring program.

Working closely with Donella at the practical end is the new face of the Institute’s professional development program – David Jones. With professional qualifications in human resource management and organisational behaviour, David is a former manager of home based outreach programs and course coordinator for Outward Bound.

David says that as the Professional Development Coordinator his role is to support the professional practice of housing people, broaden the knowledge base of the sector and support career development.

“I will be aiming to foster links and collaboration between members and also with other sectors,” says David. “I am keen to hear ideas from our members about areas for practice development as well as emerging and unmet needs. For example, there might be a person visiting your area who might make a good speaker at an AHI event.”

And what attracted him to the job? “I am passionate about helping people to realise their full potential. I am also passionate about social justice issues. This role brings the two passions together, where I can actively support and nurture the practice of housing professionals, while by extension helping support more equitable social outcomes through housing.”

Last but certainly not least, Kirsty Apps brings vital additional administrative support to the Institute at a time of growth. While working as a trainee for the AHI, Kirsty is also completing a Certificate III in Business and looks forward to the opportunity of being involved in a nationwide organisation.

“What also attracted me to this position is the broad range of training, information and support we provide, and the great staff at the AHI, who have already made it such an enjoyable and rewarding experience,” Kirsty says.
