This lively, engaging and informative workshop provides a comprehensive understanding of the Australasian social and affordable housing industry. What are the key housing challenges facing lower income and disadvantaged people, and how are they being addressed? What roles are played by public, not-for-profit and private sector organisations? And how can I navigate my way through the industry and help make a difference?

- Origins and current mix between public, not-for-profit & private providers. Which are the larger social housing providers in Australasia?
- Why and how has the not-for-profit sector grown, how is it funded and regulated? What is a typical size for a community housing provider, number of tenancies and staff, management and boards/
- Locations, age and typical building type of social housing. Issues with social housing concentraition, and the need for property renewals
- Profile of people living in social housing, and their income sources

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:
- Understand key terms and jargon used in the sector
- Identify sector organisations: public housing agencies, community housing providers, private developers, planners and service providers
- Know where to gain further sector knowledge and updates
- Plan your career working for an organisation in the sector, or identify how you can support these organisations as board member, consultant, service provider, researcher or policy maker

Presenter: Tony Gilmour
Tony is an affordable housing consultant with a passion for helping public, private and not-for-profit organisations deliver great outcomes for the communities they serve. He is founder and President of the Housing Action Network - a leading housing consultancy operating across Australia and New Zealand.
Tony has worked on diverse projects, from helping regional community housing organisations increase capacity, to Australia’s largest stock transfers and transforming social housing in Wellington. For four months in 2016 he was Acting General Manager of Junction Australia’s community housing business in South Australia.
Tony is former President of the Australasian Housing Institute, and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He has published internationally on growing the community housing sector, public housing estate renewal and financing affording housing.
